January, MONDAY, 4, 1864 got up at 6 fed choped wood chored snowed more last [nite?] Jonah took Mary home this morning in sleigh rough sleighing. Jonah took [sade selby?] to town in carrage this evening got back at 9 P.M. D. John [Mcnite?] died at 8 P.M. TUESDAY, 5. got up at 5 set up with John till 6 made fires done up feeding hauled wood + fodder + went to uncles after nite got there about 8 retired at 9 very cold sleighing midling good WEDNESDAY, 6. got up after day light helped uncle feed then he + I went to newark started up past 10 I paid tax [?] $220 bought this book at 50 got [?] buckets got back to uncles hauled [?] + fed came home got home after 8 set [after?] 10 a little warmer
