July, TUESDAY, 5, 1864 up about day light layed about untill after dawn, load up our wagons & Came up mountain awful road. Rebs shot when above harpers ferry. Canonnading this eve. but lazed on arms in battle line WEDNESDAY, 6. up at [5?] OClock marched north about 4 miles to old church lazed by stone fence till about 3 or 4 p.m, wer drove back by rebs. bad time, hot day relieved at 9. Reg Came up mountain. [I?] after grub THURSDAY, 7. up after sun rise eat B, & Came up mountain. valey looks grand. Ckirmishing still continues. hot. built stone wall after night. rain a little
