July, SATURDAY, 23, 1864. Cold night. unwell this morn, on picket at foot of mountain. first squad of second relief. Nothing going on. Cool. SUNDAY, 24. up at 5 on trick till relieved at 6 Came to Camp about 10 read, testament &c plesant day Cloudy eve, had inspection of guns &C, fighting at Winchester MONDAY, 25. comenced raining before day light rain heard till about 10 or 11 got Cold & stoped. drew tents piched them & got supper struck tents Came up mountain under stone fort. Cool night. fighting between Win & martinsburg.
