First day of "Fair"- Tuesday September 23 Unpleasant, rain falling by spells most of time till into P.M. Lena washing but couldn't put it out till middle P.M. Not feeling very smart, self head aches some most of day, & rather weak, but did up chores after breakfast, tho Lena got dinner & up other work. I did some repairing, & little jobs resting what could, Lena & I spending evening together. E_ busy in office. September 24 Bright & cold, quite a frost, mild & pleasant P.M. tho' guess Mer didn't rise above 60°+ much. Feeling better self, but tho't not best to go to Fair-grounds, tho' find Mrs Howe is sending in "entries" & going this P.M. Lena also out all P.M. I went over to set awhile with Rose, coming in time to "get milk", see to (?) & get supper. Lena here after we had supper & all eve.
