Lagrange Tenn, Aug, 8th 1864 Friend Lou Your good letter of July 25th was gladly received last Thursday, but it found me suffering from an attack of fever. Knowing that I could not write a readable letter at that time, yet anxious to place you in my debt as a correspondent, I delayed writing from day to day, hoping that in a short time I would be better qualified for the task. But finding myself getting no better qualified rather fast I write this afternoon for the purpose chiefly, of acknowledging the receipt of your letter When we learned that Capt. McKean was dead, I wrote a small note to each of my correspondents
