Bloomfield Iowa March 1st 1858. Miss Clara Vinson:- This morning finds me in possession of your note of the 26th ult. You say, "if you had Come without my knowing any thing about it, I might possibly have gone up to B -. with you." Well, Clara, I suppose that it would be an accommodation for me to let you know before hand, so that you might have time to get ready. And then, you say, that you "might possibly have gone," from which I am to infer, of Course, that it is not at all probable that you would have accepted of my Company if I had of Come without writing. Well I do not like to venture so far from home on a bare possibility. So as there was only a possibility of your Coming before I wrote, and in as much as that possibility was destroyed by my writing, (for such is the logical inference to be drawn from the above quotation) of Course I shall not Come. But "the most unkind Cut of all," was the following. "Just as sure
