Des Moines Iowa Feb 5th 1867 Dear Father Perhaps I do not write home as often as I should yet I must write occasionally. Laura writes you almost every week and I do not think it necessary to write so often as I otherwise would. We are in usual health with nothing new or important. I am still having an office, but am not doing much. There are about seventy lawyers here and of course some of them (in fact most of them) do but little, I don't know yet how I shall succeed but I hope better than I have.
