it will put a new face on our national affairs, while I am writeing I must not for get a good goak that occured last night, yesterday and last night the regiment was all out on picquet or grand guard about 1 1/2 miles from camp (the different regiments in our division take turns at it) all but enough to guard the camp, our Division and Brigade Generals thought they would see how our men that were left to guard the camp, did their duty (the Camp guards are not allowed to load their rifles) so the Generals Davies and Hackelman came to our camp lines a guard halted them and ordered one to advance with the countersign Gen. Davies advanced pretty closte and then grabed the guards musket at the same time saying he would not give the countersign, the guard guard immediately hit him a lick under the ear that made him release his holt of the musket and give the countersign the other general nearly bursting with laughter thought he would not like to
