of the 2nd Cavelry's Battery, there were Six companies down on the Scout with the fource that destroyed the 70 locomotives and 500 or 600 passenger and box carrs they got back last night Some of them took supper with me. they left this morning early to join their Regiment at Germantown. this place is about (40) miles east of Memphis, and I think will bee a great deal healthyer than Corinth We expect the paymaster here tomorrow for certain. he will be quite welcom. James Buchwalter of Co. "B" came back yesterday. he says that it is hotter up north than it is down here. we stand it firstrate. and I believe that we that is our Brigade could stand it better than the Secesh could at New Orleans I wouldnot be afraid to try it. our Brigade is pretty well scattered now. we are all here the other regiments are divided up parts of them at the small towns and parts at the bridges betwene here and Memphis we are indeted to Major Frank Kendrick for our being sent to this place he is serveing on the staff of Col Minzer the Comd't. of this post. Kendrick is to be Col. of the 2nd Tenn. African Infty. as soon as
