Head-Quarters, 2d Division, 16th Army Corps.
La Grange, Tenn. Oct. 9th 1863. 
Dear Father I have been so busy and I thought I would wait 'til the box came before I wrote I recd your two last the last dated Sept. 30th the Box came yesterday all right except one honey can burst and about one half of it ran out. no damage except to the paper. you see by the heading that I am now at Division Hd. Qrs.  I am now Acting Ordnance Officer of the 2nd Div. 16th Army Corps. so here after until further orders send my letters directed to me at these Hd. Qrs. in my last I thought that our Corps would take the field but present signs show that we will stay around here.  I wish you would send me a ruleing pen for I will have blanks to make out and a common pen does not do so fine work. Send a small sized one.  I think you can send it by mail.  I was down to Memphis yesterday and returned today it is a pretty large place I didnot have time to look around as much as I wished to  I will gow down again after a fiew weeks. the Rebels are comeing
