Head-Quarters, 2d Division, 16th Army Corps. Pulaski Tenn. Jan. 15th 1864. Dear Father I received yours of Dec. 21 & 22nd on the 4th and have been very busy ever since I see by the Gazette of the 7th that the Company has got home I have been very busy and expect to be for ten days more then I shal have some spare time but by the time that I could get home the Company would be almost ready to start back and I wouldnot have so long to stay home and it would interfear with my getting another furlough or leave of absence during the next year or so, and after thinking it all over, I have come to the conclusion that as I have got a pretty nice place I had better keep it and stand my chance of gowing home on a full thirty day leave next summer if I was to start now I might get snowed up on the R.R.s and be to long on the way to leave my Office. About the Major he is married and has his oldest boy with him down here he is about ten years old his wife is staying at hur fathers in Louisville Ky. tell Maggy that if She dont write I will have to tell the Major why that She is afraid of haveing her hair pulled by his wife.
