Holland The other day we took a delightful excursion to [Markere?] and Volendam which are renown for their quaintness. The fisherfolk who live there cling to their oldtime tradition and customs. The still wear the wooden shoes which we associate with things Holland, white dutch lace capes tight padded basques and very full long skirts that are padded by means of a very thick gathered understkirt. In Marken, the women wear a string of hair, or a yellow curly down (as the case may be) each side of the face. The back hair is cut rather closely and is entirely hidden beneath the inevitable old-time caps. The locks of yellow hair are rather amusing when they frame sunburned red faces and toothless - except perhaps one stump to a smile - gums. The entire effect might be less grotesque and more pleasing if
