been blown out by a previous eruption The floor of this great bowl looks like a jam of shiny black ice cakes, but in reality is formed from broken blocks of rehardened lava. A few tiny smoking fissures are strewn about among the ice in this once molten bed. In the center towering over the old rim stands the new cone in the making. From its funnel top roll beautiful clouds upon clouds of white smoke and rise skyward. Sometimes the underside [illegible] and reflects the red of the fiery interior; sometimes they are tinged with a bit of yellow - sulpher fumes no doubt making their escape. The huge mouth stands always open and belches forth the mountains of clouds both by day and by night. Occassionally too, the great energy on the inside blows out a shower of red hot stones and they fall permiscuiosly upon the new cone. Once too and
