1. The [Shundagon?] Pagoda of Burma. From afar on the Rangoon River the [Shundagon?] Pagoda dwarfs the mainland of Asia. It builds up to a grand climax Its enormous gilded drum towers above the city of Rangoon and silhouettes against the lazy sky of Burma. The kingly center-drum on a throne high above the horizen dominates the landscape. Encircled by his forest of minor subjects he [sneaks?] his glance over them, then over the near world about him, until finally his gaze dreamingly rests on far distant vistas. By daytime the city of gold minarets of the Pagoda blaze gorgeously in the sunshine; by nighttime they twinkle with merryment and dance not totally unlike candle lighted Christmas trees. On nearing the shore the Pagoda looms greater and greater but, as we view it upon land more & more immense...an incredibly massive & complex structure; the perspective gradually changes. Within the city of Rangoon proper the near buildings along the streets elevate themselves in front
