To add to their distress the boys had not been paid for nearly six months and had no money to purchase anything if the opportunity had offered. The weather too was intensely cold so that many of the men did not remain with the regiment but pushed right on securing the best places possible to sleep at night. The main body however slep under their shelter tents at night. The night of our arival at Lancaster, Ky, the thermometer registered
