68 Front of Petersburg, Va. Sunday June 26 1864 Weather was exceedingly warm - toward evening there was considerable thunder and lightning, but no rain. Levi Lewis of Company E was killed by a rebel sharpshooter. More whisky issued. Monday 27th Some of the cooks, whose duty it was to carry the ration of whisky to the front drank freely of it and before getting to the regiment were pretty drunk. The Cook of Company F was accused of keeping nearly half the company's ration, hence he became beastly drunk. Private of Company A was wounded by a sharpshooter.
