78 Front of Petersburg, Va Wednesday July 13th 1864 Dr Vickers came to see me this morning and suggested the advisability of sending me to the Hospital. I told him I preferred to remain with the regiment. Thursday 14th A very heavy fire with mortor guns part of the day - Assistant Surgeon Brant (formerly Captain Brant of Co. A. of the 50th) was here today on a visit to the officers and the members of his old Company. Friday 15th It is reported this morning that quite a number of rebels came into our line last night. During a heavy cannonade, on our right, about 6 oclock, this evening a caisson or magazine was blowen up
