185 Fort McGilvery,Va. Thursday, February 16th 1865 Orders are very strict in relation to talking to Rebels and the utmost vigilance to every thing going on is required. During the day a number of pieces of paper were noticed floating down the river, one of which I secured and found this note on it: "Yanks! "Tonight at 8 oclock one regiment of us will come over - we will give a signal. February 16th 1865." I sent it to Brigade Head Quarters. Received letters from Sister Anna and Cousin Jose Longacre. Corporal Lawrence Lattner came back to the Company. Gave him a Blanket & some other clothing. Gave - Shay, private 51st P.V.V. 1 Pr shoes.
