Leavenworth Kansas, Dec. 1864. My Dear Friend Ever, You are well aware that I would not neglect you purposely, but circumstances have been such since receiving your last letter that I could not answer it "right off". This is the sunday before Christmas. What are you going to give me for a present? Hey? It is also a dull drizzly day - trying to rain - hope it will - as our cistern has gone dry - Heigho! I dont know what to write you - Wish you knew the people here - [Work] is here for dinner today - We are going to have Roast chicken and "fixins". I'm awful hungry - I know that much
