Winfield Henry County Iowa February 19th. 1865 Dearest Tillie: I am at home again - returned on last evening - I bought thirty eight head of cattle, 25 of them fat Cattle. I want to buy some more - I purpose starting out again in the morning to buy hogs. I heard of a lot for sale. Since it has been decided that this war is to be terminated by fighting, cattle and hogs have advanced in price very fast. I found them much higher after I returned from Ill's than they were when I left. I stayed all night with our Cousin Ike Reaves, I told him "what was the matter " with you and his Cousin "Sam"..- he seemed to be very much pleased with the arangements. Tuesday 21st. At brother "Otts" this morning. stayed with them last night I bought seven head of fat cattle and one - - milk cow - yesterday It looks very much like rain this morning. the roads are about as muddy as they were in Ill's a couple of weeks ago. I neglected to tell you that Cousin Ike Reaves is the father of a little girl about four weeks old - Jennie tells me that she never recd your last letter. I told her that I heard you say that you had answered her letter.
