Sherburn Barracks Washington DC May 14th, 65 Dear Brother and Sister Your vary wealcom letter was received some time a go, and would have been answered sooner had it not been that I have not had a moments time in which to write to any of our many relatives, we are kept on duty thirty six out of evry 48 hours or have been since we came here. we are guarding the prisoners, supposed to be implicated in the assassination of president Lincoln. They are confined in the old W.S. Penetentiary at the arsenal Eleven in all. 10 men and one woman.
