Kingston Springs Tennessee June 13th. 1865 My Dear Tillie" Fearing that you never recd my last letter I will write again, for I am dying almost) to hear from you. I would like to know where our letters go to. for surely you have written - - - Well my old gall. this morn finds Will & myself able for our rations.... although since last I wrote you. my boy has recd a wound. while out on a scout.. about thirty miles from here.. May 28th. the morning he started. I noticed that he did not go off as gay as he usually does. and I had a strange feeling.. but I said nothing about it. and consoled my self. that Will would be back the next evening. but the next evening. about 8 o'clock. two of his men came dashing in to camp. with the sad news of my boy. being shot.. at 11 o'cl- that day. and he wanted the Surgeon & myself to come to him immediately..... & in one hour from (Upside down, at head of page:-) I am done. write soon wont you? or I will have a fit.. be a good girl. and keep your nose clean (as Mollie M. used to say Will joins me in love to Cozn Sam & Tillie. hopeing this may find you "gay & festive" I Am Ever your loving Cousin Hattie (Vertically down, at top left:-) 12th Regt U S C Inftry Nashville Tenn Box 253}
