Burlington, Ia Jan., 31, 1943 My Dearest: - Gee! It sounded good to hear your voice tonight. I just imagined you were on your way someplace. I surely hope you make it all O.K. It worries me because you are out in that old car. Conrad & Gladys were here when you called. You know I was supposed to have the dinner tonight. I had everything planned for it. Ed leaves thursday and I wanted to have them before he left. It makes me so mad to think I would do a thing like that. I rode down with the Hamffs and they were going to stay for church, so we took the bus home and was coming down that slope & I fell. My ankle hurt me life fury then, but was soon O.K. and I caught the bus and come home. Gladys came and I got dinner, made the beds and tended to stoker, swept snow off front porch & walks and Gladys went down to the shop. It started paining me terribly by that time, so we decided to call Dr. Shaw. In half an hour he was at his office and it was hurting me so badly, I could hardly stand it. No elevator running & had to climb two flights of stairs & back down. Then he took me over to Dr. Dana's Office & took an X-ray of it. It showed no bones broken or chipped. Thank the lord for that. Dr. Shaw is coming out in the morning and treat it I guess. I do
