Burlington, Ia Jan. 24, 1943 Sun. 10:45 a.m My Dearest Am at the hospital, waiting to get in the room to see Ruth. Someone else in there is getting ready to go home, so am having to wait. I guess she will be going home this afternoon. I haven't seen her since Fathers day, I have been too busy to get up. We went to S.S. & then came up here on the way home. Clifford is sick today, so John R, Carol & I came. He was so sick at his stomache last nite. He threw up twice. The second time, all over everything. I suppose it is the flu too. Oh! how I wish winter was over. I have had a cold in my head and don't feel so hot either. But no time for me to be sick. I haven't found a maid yet and am almost ready to give up in despair. You should see some of the applicants. I wouldn't no more turn them over to anyone like that, than I would fly. Do you think we could make it if I stayed home? What do you think? Honey what did you do about the income tax? Have you sent it in yet? How much will it be? I will try and send you my share. Don't neglect sending it in. Let me know right away.
