Saturday March 30th 1918 Went to Waukegan with Mrs. Dewey to get Easter things for the children. Found telephone orders waiting when I got back. Called Miss Root and found that I was ordered to Camp Lee, VA. to leave Mon. Great excitement! Fixed nests- went for a boat ride on pond with Buddie visiting Sunday-Easter-March 31st. To service with Mrs. and Mr. Dewey at Great Lakes. To hear Harry Landen in P.M. His was the best meeting I have ever attended. Home to pack - To Mrs Roberts for supper - "Colors" most impressive. Very sad evening. Monday April 1st Mrs. Dewey took me to the train today. I don't see how I could leave her and the dear babies - my little Pete particularly. Had lunch with Mrs. Williams took oath of office - saw Margaret C had dinner with Mrs. Post and she and the Dr. took me to the train leaving Chicago at 11:45 - In our group were Misses - Foote Robertson - Ward - (Mihills?) - Dugan - Evans - Beisel - West - Vining &c.
