At Cedar Falls Iowa Wednesday, May 18, 1864 Cedar Falls. Took train for Dubuque arrived [illegible] and immediately marched on to the steamer Muscatine where we partook of our first rations in loaves of bread there being some 400 recruits all bound for Davenport after moving some ten miles down we met [illegible] Thursday 19 On Board Steam. Muscatine [illegible] after sleeping on cabin floor without even a blanket & arrived at Davenport 8 o'clock A.M. and marched directly to our quarters at Camp McClenlan and drew rations for breakfast at 10. helped [illegible] fill out enlisting papers Friday 20 Camp McClellan call out half past four [illegible]
