Memphis Tenn Saturday, July 2, 1864 the first relief off the [illegible] at 5 o clock A.M. and the [illegible] reliefs discharged at 9 o'clock. Ed [illegible] on picket guard. A heavy showes of rain 3 or 4 o clock P.M. A [illegible] himself a bunk of Boards split up. Finished reading Book of 600 pages through. Borrowed of privates Smith Sunday 3 Foggy in the morning Sunday inspection took place at 9 A.M. John Eldridge detailed on guard for the first time at Memphis. Charlie [illegible] visited our camp. 3 men detailed to guard [illegible] mailed letter to Father cool & cloudy. took a water bath Monday 4 on picket guard with Ed. & a [illegible] cavalry went by here [illegible] memphis [illegilbe] stewed apples and [Black?] berries for supper. firing [illegible]
