Monday, August 1, 1864 Lagrange Detailed on picket duty [illegible] and 14 privates of co. E. first post South of Balls Bluff one mile S.W. of Lagrange. Capt. Brooke officer of the Picket caught [illegible] on his post off of [illegible] rain showers Tuesday 2 No sleep till after 2 o clock am. musketoes [illegible] plenty. relieved of duty at 7 by co [illegible] boys Every man on [illegible] arrived from memphis today. three trains of cars passed East loaded with troops. Wednesday 3 Detailed on Picket duty at the post East of Holly Spring road. [illegible] Sergeant [illegible] green corn [illegible]
