Hanover College Feb 8th 1851 Friend Joseph Once more I find myself seated with pen in hand under the firm determination of writing you a letter which has been due you for some time, and before I commence, I suppose I must make you an apology for not writing sooner, which I hope you will consider sufficient & will pardon me. Well to commence in a judgeimatical style (as Bob Temple used to say) I have not had time, but as that is such a common excuse I suppose you will not deem it a good one. My second one is this, I have so many corespondents about Sparta, that I cannot write to any one of them only once in awhile. So putting them both together they will make one good any how. But If go on in this kind of a style it will be a greater boor to you than if I had not written at all. So to commence since I last saw you I have passed through a great many rubs, but the greatest of all is one I went in-to since Christmas, that is to rub the dishes evry morning or in other words, I have been baching since (over)
