Written to Mrs W W Peebles Dear Mother. As I am leaving the U.S. my thoughts naturally turn to those who have been my dearest friends so I am writing to you. I am so sorry that I was unable to get down to see you but events moved with such rapidity that I was helpless. I left Ft. Worth and then to Ft. Sill but after being there a short time I was ordered to port of embarkation so that at present I am sitting in the smoking room of our transport about in the middle of the Atlantic. It is certainly wonderful when one sees the vastness of this old ocean. I do not believe that it has ever been described or ever will be. We have been having pleasant weather so far and I will be well satisfied if it continues.
