A new bunch of troops wounded came in from the front who were mostly niggers. One of them said If a man tells you that those Prussian guards dont know how to handle a machine gun you tell him that a monkey doesn't know what to do with a peanut. They are very funny but make good soldiers. It turned cold last night and some of the fellows were sick. I have a cough, but am feeling pretty good. Found an Italian Barber from Brooklyn today to cut my hair. He says that Brooklyn has Paris beat a lot because they have better buildings. I believe that each person thinks his home a little the best of all. I know I do anyway and the more I am away from home the more dear you and Helen are to me. I guess it was there all the time but I was too busy to have my best side in view. I have been trying to learn some French but it is some job although I may get so I can haggle with a store keeper yet. Have not been to any shows as I don't care much for them. Well I will close hoping this finds as warm a spot in your heart as your letters will in mine when I get them. I am hoping this thing will be over soon and I will join you. Yours with Love Walter
