for these few lines. Dinner was junk today had fish which I didn't eat. They did have good soup today (nice vegetable soup) so I ate that and a couple of peanut butter sandwiches. Have had peanut butter the last week or so which is a treat. We are getting quite a few rookies in new fellows who have only been in the army a month or two. General duty men most of them. Got paid yesterday and rumor has it we will be paid our October pay on the 31st of this month. If so I'll have lots of money for my furlough. Everyone I loaned money to has paid me up. Have over sixty dollars on hand if I was sure I wouldn't get a furlough before the end of the month I would send part of it home. The sun is out now, hope your nice weather is lasting. There is not time of year nicer than Indian summer. I am feeling fine and hope you both have no colds etc. Love Johnny
