[Nov 18, 1918] My Dearest Bess: I have no paper and cannot get any so I will use this paper. Well the war is over and everything settled as we wished it to be. Our [can] hardly believe that it has been accomplished but the people are so happy that it must be true. I was downtown the night the amistice was declared and the people just filled the streets sing the Marseillause. It is a beautiful piece. Their grand opera house faces on one side of the square and on the balcony was the foremost prima donna of France. She sang the song and the crowd sang the chorus. It has been a long drawn out affair for these people but it means much to have it decided rightly. Hasent the Kaiser proven himself to be an awful coward and a despicable personality to desert his people. I hope the allies will demand that he be turned over to them and tried for murder by court. It would be a good thing. Lloyd George has proven himself to be a wonderful man as also has Clemenceau. He is about 82 yrs old I believe but jumps around like a young man. We have had quite a lot of influenza here and a number of deaths. I suppose there will be lots more before we are through with it. It is hard to say when we will be allowed to go home but I don't believe I will stay over here any longer than I have to. Imagine
