Sun. 8 I did not go away from home today. felt more like reading novels than like doing anything else. I often wish that I was wealthy then I think I could secure my permanent happiness, but poverty certainly keeps it from me. Mon. 9 Once more the common exercises of the school-rooms were entered upon to day, some surrounding districts complain of their teachers, one has been discharged, this makes pupils feel like having power, and fosters a spirit of disobedience among them, but I'll manage them anyhow. Tues. 10 The weather changed very suddenly, from a warm to a cold temperature. I am in the habit of taking exercise with my scholars in a game of base every day which keeps my physical powers in the right trim. I had to lecture several of my pupils today. Wed. 11 I have nothing of special importance to communicate today, every thing seems to move in its natural course. Thurs. 12 Some days at noon I take a notion to drill the boys in the school, which I did to day and they seem to like it, to be considered soldiers, it is natural for man to be ambitious and aspiring.
