Mon. 16. I assisted Privates August Lucas and Frederic Goeser of my Company in getting their discharges, they have hernia and are going home in a few days. I had sergeant John Hill reduced to the ranks for refusing to obey an order from me. Tues. 17. Sergeant C. A. Rink was reduced to the ranks for fighting with private Hethiger. I am troubled about the state of my Company, my lieutenants have done all the mischief they possibly could do. I am going to have this settled somehow. Wed. 18 This morning I drew $11.16 for transportation from St. Louis to Cairo. I am boarding at present at the house Rept by Ch Pfifferling and Block called the Rising Sun, most of the officers of our regiment board there. I sent Geo. Weimann to the post hospital. Lucas and Goeser left for home today. I went to see the general about my lieutenants, but he gave me no satisfaction, I also saw the colonel about them.
