Board of Foreign Mission of the Methodist Episcopal Church 150 Fifth Avenue New York City Valence, France Sept. 27-1920 My dear Mrs. Bess: I am taking this liberty thinking of you more as Bess Pebbles of our school days, than as Mrs. Fox who has been called upon to make such a sacrifice for our country. Instead of writing 'twould be a great pleasure to talk with you and to tell you about what I found at Suresnes near Paris. The pictures enclosed tell the story fairly well, altho' the day they were taken was cloudy and one couldnot be sure of success. I tried different time for exposure for which I am happy. It would do your heart much good to see how well kept the cemetery is - there were two American attendants in charge who were most courteous in helping me to find your husband's grave. The flagstaff is a central object and adds much to the beauty - while the simple white
