July 14, 1943 Paratillo, Idaho Dear Dad, Mom & Gradma: It's a beautiful night here, warm and moonlight. Just came back from a soft ball game, our squadron team won again. Im getting to be quite a [illegible] [enjoy?] seeing the fellows play. Have been pretty boring the past couple of days. Another squadron has been flying our ships as we havent any crews for the time being. Seems as tho they are kind of hard on then as mine had a lot of maintenance Most failure of parts is due to ignorance in handling the part. It clouded up for awhile this morning and I thought sure it would storm but it went around us. Now all the stars are out and it wouldnt storm if it tried (I think). The last fellow ahead of me leaves on his furlough tomorrow. Gets seven days + [five?] days travelling time + 1 day [again?] which will get him back almost the 28th then I can leave. I'll get five days travelling time so I should get a longer stay at home than I had last winter.
