the “[illegible]” yesterday and a letter from Uncle Raymond and you. Today I got one from Mrs Synder and one from you. Don't worry about my birthday they don't mean so much any more and besides I'll almost get home to spend it with you, that would be the best birthday I can have. I spent most of the day “[illegible]” and a “[illegible]” a “[illegible]” “[illegible]” our engineering officer's ear. He had banged into something and put a bad crease in it. Got it “[illegible]” in pretty good shape and one of the other “[illegible]” is painting it. I never did work a spray painter but I could I could. He isn't such a bad guy but wish we could have our old one back. Makes me kind of wish I had a car but it isn't practical while I'm in the army. General of the “[illegible]” have “[illegible]” old “[illegible]” but tires and gas are the problem. Have an inspection due on my “[illegible]” tomorrow, a hundred hour, with tire change and a couple of generators to replace. Hope I can get enough help; one of my fellows is on KP tomorrow and another was shipped out today as an engine specialist, he was one of my best men. Must close & shower & turn in. Love Johnny
