Aug. 30, 1943 Pocatello, Idaho Dear Dad, Mom and Grandma: Buy now it is pouring down rain here, just coming down in sheets and the wind is blowing very hard. Up in the mountains it is snowing and we can see the peaks are growing white when the rain lets up a bit. Was quite cold this morning it didn't frost but you could see your breath easily. Built a fire in the barracks stoves this afternoon to kind of dry out the building. This was our bed airing day and we got fresh pillow cases and mattress covers. Had my blankets out to air and just got them in before the shower, got a few sprinkles on them but not enough to matter. One of my blankets is getting threadbare and you can see the sun light thru it easily. No wonder I guess they have been used ever day for over a year. Got them at [illegible] last summer. Got your letter today with Aunt Ethels in it. She must have really been sick. She wouldn't give up easily I know and if it keeps her down it must be bad. Canning 27 quarts of stuff in one day sounds like a lot for a well person but [alone?] one who is
