we was mustered  for pay on the 30 of Dec the paymaster is at Leavenworth city we expect to get it soon without fail i have heard nothing of the Regt since we left nor any of the boys i will write to them soon i have not heard from home since the 22 of Nov then is when we left the regt  We had a very good New Years dinner we had leather cake sweet cakes fresh pork beef [with?] honey molasses and beans you may had a better one but i doubt it for that was good enough for a king i did not get home on that day as fremont said we would but if he had not been superceeded i believe we would for he has done more in as little time than any other man in the western department  and i believe if it had not been for that lying villain F P Blair he still would have cornterol over the Western department and the war in Mo would be at an end but the contemptiable old son of a bitch thought if he could scrape up a pack of lies get some one to help him to set...out he would stand a pretty good...to fill that office his plans was ...into and he was not promoted but...degraded the hypercritical old demag[og]
