Camp Pittsburg Tennessee April 24th 1862 Dear Father It is with pleasure that I take the present opportunity of informing you that we are as well as common and hope these few lines will find you all the same We received a letter from Almira yesterday and was glad to hear from you there is not much going on here only Soldiers are landing all the time. General Pope landed 30 thousand here yesterday I dont know how many troops there is here there is part of Popes all of grants and all of Buels divisions General Halleck is here in Command he is going to advance on Corinth as soon as the roads get so we can travel Almira wrote and said you wanted some money to pay your taxes she said you didnt want to dun us we dont consider it a dun atall we only consider it a duty we owe to our parents well we hant been payed yet and I dont know when we will be but I know one thing if we hant payed aganst the first of May I'll go and se Halleck about it we have been in the service pretty near 8 months and we hant recived a cent from the government yet we hant going to budge a peg until we get our pay unless it is to fight and thats what we come for as for marching we hant done
