Corinth Miss Nov the 20 62 Dear father and mother I take my pen in hand to let you know that I am well and hope these few lines will find you all the same I rec'd you letter last night at bed time and was glad to hear from you once more We was on Review today and gen Dodge told us that he would do all in his power to get us to our Regt where we would be known and heard from one man Gen Sweeny is our brigader over the 2d 7th 8th 12, 14 Iowa and 52 ills he has been in 22 battles and wounded twice in every one he had his arm taken off at the battle of Pallo Alto in Mexico and it is a pity it had not been his head, he is awful strict and makes us walk up to the mark There is only one division here and that is the comd gen Dodge has command he is a young man about 30 years old and is a good commander We have got this place well fortified and are still at it the negroes does the most of it there is about two thousand of them here and more coming all the time I am going to send a bakers dozen up there to haul wood for you this winter and feed and such things
