Corinth, Miss Nov the 24th 1862 Dear father and mother I once more have the privilege of writing you a few lines to let you know that I am well at present and hope these few lines will find you all the same Well to tell the truth I have nothing of any importance to write so I will not write much We was out on Review yesterday gen Sweeny is our commander he reviewed us gen Dodge has command of the post here at Corinth he is from Iowa We enjoy ourselves here better than we ever have before we have plenty of everything We have good east bread all the time bacon. pickled pork. beef. beans. peas. coffee. sugar. rice. molasses etc. and go on duty every other day. Standing picket. harmon is on today. The Union Brigade is not very large now the 58th Ill is put in a battery and the 3 Iowa regt is by their selves there is not very many of us; not over 200 in all and are divided into 6 companies So you can imagine how we look but I hope we wont be in this fix long We may be put into a battery before long Some of our boys is in now I would as soon go into one as not it is not as hard as infantry I sent you a book this morning that will show you how much fun we have here read it and let To and John Free read it We are out of stamps if you will send us some we will be very thankful I think we will stay here all winter as the other troops are gone on the expedition south while we are left here to hold the post I will send Ahinro & Marg
