Honored and Respected Friend I take the pleasant opportunity of writing you a few lines in answer to some Rec of you a few days ago. I am well at preasand tho I have been sick for some time back; I just came from the hospital yesterday. The health of the Regiment is not very good at present when we left camp Tuttle we had 950 men able for duty now we cant muster over six hundred men able for duty we have lost 3 of our best men Since we came here last night their was two out of Tottens Co died and two out of Co. D. from Oskaloosa the weather is very nice we hav not had any snow and not much rain yet but we have plenty of guard duty to do we have one thousand Secesh prisoners here yet that we have to guard our Co took over one hundred of them down to Caro last week we will like ly stay here all
