Mr. David Elder c/o Evening Journal Washington Iowa April 17, 1944 Dear Gang, I received your swell letter Dave and I must say that I hope that I get some more of them. It not only had a lot of scuttlebut but a lot of news that was very interesting to read. Especially about the girls basketball game. Just like a bunch of women when they get together. Ha! Stanley Wallace mentioned some very familiar names too. That's the first time that I've heard of him for almost two y ears. I had heard a little later news about Harry Barker but not any news that was that familiar. Dave you mentioned about some of us writing about ourselves. I don't know much about myself except that I just passed my second class fire control exam and so the 2/c instead of 3/c after my name. I can't say more because it ain't ethics or something. Business concerns are sure changing hands. It's hard to realize what Washington is like any more. Dave, when did you start raising chickens Ha! Guess I'll close for now, on account of room & no news. Take it easy. Sincerely [Milo?] Russell S. Bell 2/c USS Penn, Box 36 % Fleet Post Office San Francisco, Calif.
