Wed. May 10. [1944] Dear Dave, I received the letter you sent me and I really enjoyed it. It is good to hear about what the other fellows you know are doing. Milo Steel Jr. is so close now that I sent it on to him. I think he will enjoy it as much as I have. Well, things must be getting pretty dull around home with most of us gone. Don't think we wouldn't give a lot to be back there now, though. However, our place is here until this mess is over and I, personally, don't care to come home until I can come home to stay. There are so many things I could tell that would make an interesting letter, but unfortunately the censors are pretty strict. The newspapers, I understand have carried quite a bit of what we have been doing here. The American Division (if I ever see any paper saying it is made up of Americans and Californians again I'll go mad. It is a combination of the words American and Caledonian. The Division was activated in New Caledonia) has certainly done its part in this war. The 182cd Inf Regiment as especially our battallion has really gone to town. The Second batallion is the most decorated batallion in the American Division. I'm certainly proud of my outfit. It can't be beat. Well, I must close. Thanks again for the letter. I hope more will follow. Sincerely, Eugene Dunlap [Cpl. Leslie E. Dunlap, Jr.]
