Greenland May 17th, 1944 Hello Dave I received your letter today and was glad to hear from you. Also enjoyed reading about the other fellows that are away from home. Seven months ago today I landed in this isolated country and I guess I have another year to go before I get to come back to the States. We are situated on a Fjord and there are snow covered mountains all around us. There are no towns close here, but there is an Eskimo Village across the Fjord that is "off limits" to the Soldiers. Last winter it was very cold here and the wind is strong and blows most of the time. The northern lights are sure a sight to see. We are enjoying warmer weather now. It is daylight until about ten o'clock and later on we will have only about one hour of darkness. For recreation we have our "Artic Theater", four movies a week then there is a good fishing further up in the Fjord, abundant with trout and salmon. We have two radios in each barracks and we are able to listen to the programs from home. We also have a P.A. System in each barracks and our Special Services Station supplies us with good music and good programs. I will close now hoping to receive your sheet again. Sincerely, L. Edmondson [Pvt. Leighton Edmondson]
