Pocahontas Sun Die the 20th 1863 Soldiers of the Eight Iowa Inft I take this method of expressing my opinion in regard to you recruiting as Veteran Volunteers " and submit the following reasons - why I think it is to your interest to re-enter the Service - for your earnest consideration 1st Your first term of service will not expire until September, 1864; at that time the fall campaign will have commenced. If your services are required will the government not retain you If your services are not required neither would they be needed as veterans; and if discharged as Veterans you become entitled to the privileges arising from it as fully as you had served three years. 2nd Suppose you are mustered out of the service in Sept 1864, and the war should still continue would you - if able to serve- remain at home I doubt it judging from the precedent I am inclined to believe the majority of the 8th Iowa Infantry would again enlist. But you would not at that time perhaps have the same privilege extended which are at the present held out to Veterans 3rd You have already filled a brilliant pages in the history of your county.
