May the 1st 1864 Dear Brother I take the present opportunity of dropping you a few lines in the shape of a letter. I have not heard from you for a good while and have been waiting for a letter but have not got any yet. I would like to know the reason why you have not wrote to me is it because that you have forgotten me or is it that you dont care any thing for me or is it that you have not time or is it you are in love with some of the girls or is it that you are too lazy or is it any of the above natural consequencies. Now I would like to hear from you all very well. I have not much to write time are brisk here now every thing demands a good price money is getting plenty and plenty of money everything else lively will impact we have plenty of nearly everything we have plenty to eat plenty to drink and tolerable plenty to wear except we have plenty of Union men and lots of copperheads for the 7th and 8th Iowa Cav is here and they
