Memphis Tenn June 3rd 1864 Father and Mother As I have wrote to all the family but you I must write you a few lines hoping it may find you well as for myself I cant complain I dont get quiet as much to eat as I would like to have some times and not so good as I would like to have but that a Soldiers cant expect I am willing to live most anyway and be Satisfied if we can end this war by Christmas and get home I hope by May but I fear not if Grant and Sherman is Successful then I think there is some hopes of a Speedy end and I think it depends a good deal on who we elect our next president dont you think So We are Still on Provost-duty getting along firstrate we are on duty every other day but the duty is not hard I was on guard last night and on again to night I have a nice room to stay in nice chairs we have a big nice time good as a Soldier could ask for. I dont know how long I will stay here there are four detailed to stay in the office I may not be here but a few days I come here yesterday the Citizens here are greatly pleased in having us for provost guards they say we are the finest looking and the best disciplined Regt that has ever been
